Adrian Newey, the Chief Technical Officer of Red Bull Racing, has been named the World Car Person of the Year for 2024. He led the development of the RB19, considered the most dominant F1 car in history, which helped Max Verstappen secure the team’s sixth world championship in 2023. Newey was selected from a group of five nominees, including Maruti Suzuki Chief Technology Officer CV Raman.

Before joining Red Bull, Newey held positions at Williams and McLaren F1 teams. At Williams, he played a key role in designing the championship-winning cars of 1992 and 1993, notable for their groundbreaking technological advancements such as active suspension and traction control. Newey also contributed to McLaren’s success from 1996 to 2005, aiding in the development of the MP4/13 and MP4/14 cars, driven by Mika Hakkinen to world championship victories in 1998 and 1999.

The RB19, under Newey’s guidance, achieved remarkable success in the 2023 F1 season, winning 21 out of 22 races, with Verstappen and Sergio Perez behind the wheel. Newey’s tenure with Red Bull since 2006 has seen him design all the championship-winning cars, including those used by Sebastian Vettel to secure consecutive championships from 2010 to 2014.
