The Kia Sonet undergoes significant updates both externally and within the cabin. Bookings for the revamped Sonet are set to commence on December 20, 2023. Kia India has officially introduced the facelifted version of the Sonet, marking its first mid-lifecycle update for the popular subcompact SUV, initially launched in 2020. While the mechanical aspects of the 2024 Kia Sonet will remain consistent, retaining the same petrol and diesel engine options, notable enhancements are made in terms of features, technology, and styling. Here’s a comprehensive overview of what to expect from the 2024 Kia Sonet Facelift.
The upcoming Kia Sonet facelift will maintain its availability in three trim options: Tech-Line, GT-Line, and X-Line. Within the Tech-Line trim, there will be five variants: HTE, HTK, HTK+, HTX, and HTX+, with the latter two featuring one variant each – GTX+ and X-Line.
The facelifted Sonet showcases a refreshed appearance, highlighted by comprehensive LED lighting. This includes crown jewel LED headlights, star map pattern LED DRLs, Ice Cube LED fog lamps, and connected LED taillights. The LED headlamp is available from the HTX variant and above, while the other LED features are accessible from the HTK+ trim onwards.
Wheel enhancements are notable, with the base trim equipped with 15-inch steel wheels and full wheel covers. From the HTK trim and above, all variants now boast 16-inch alloy wheels. Furthermore, the higher trims offer a choice between two distinct crystal-cut alloy wheel designs.
The Tech-Line option offers three interior trim choices depending on the variant selected: all-black semi-leatherette upholstery, dual-tone black and beige semi-leatherette interior, and dual-tone black and brown leatherette interior. The GT-Line trim features black leatherette upholstery with white inserts, while the top-tier X-Line comes with all-black leatherette seats and sage green inserts.
In terms of features, notable upgrades include a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a corresponding 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Lower trims are equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen unit, with the larger unit supporting wired Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while the smaller unit offers wireless functionality. The cabin is now enhanced with LED ambient sound lighting, complemented by the addition of an electric sunroof.
The Kia Sonet offers a range of creature comforts, including a 4-way adjustable powered driver seat, front seat ventilation function, a 7-speaker Bose sound system, one-touch up/down function for all four power windows (exclusive to the X-Line trim), and remote engine start/stop with a smart key. The vehicle retains the Kia Connect connected car technology.
Enhanced safety features are a highlight, with standard offerings such as six airbags, ABS with EBD, Brake Force Assist, electronic stability control, vehicle stability management, hill start assist control, rear parking sensors, emergency stop signal, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, and both front and rear seatbelt reminder systems.
Additionally, the Sonet now offers Level 1 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems), incorporating features like Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keep Assist, Lane Following Assist, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning, and Leading Vehicle Departure Alert.
Under the hood, the Kia Sonet continues to offer two petrol engine options: the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol delivering 82 bhp and 115 Nm of torque, and the 1.0-litre turbo petrol producing 118 bhp and 172 Nm. The 1.2-litre engine comes with a standard 5-speed manual transmission, while the turbo petrol engine provides the choice of a 6-speed iMT (intelligent Manual Transmission) and a 7-speed DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) automatic.
For diesel enthusiasts, Kia exclusively offers the more robust 1.5-litre VGT engine with the Sonet. This diesel motor generates 114 bhp and 250 Nm of peak torque. The diesel Sonet is available with a 6-speed iMT, a 6-speed automatic transmission, and a 6-speed manual transmission option.
