“Mahindra Scorpio X” Trademark Registered for a Forthcoming Model

Mahindra has officially secured the trademark for the name ‘Scorpio X,’ indicating its potential use in an upcoming model. The brand has previously indicated plans to expand the Scorpio lineup with additional models. Mahindra revealed the Global Pik Up concept last year, which might adopt the Scorpio X moniker upon its release.

The Scorpio X pickup is scheduled for launch next year and is expected to offer both petrol and diesel engine options. It is anticipated to feature advanced technology and robust off-road capabilities. The production model is set to debut in 2025.

Initially showcased in South Africa, the Scorpio pickup concept, internally referred to as Z121, will be marketed globally, including regions such as South Africa, Australia, and the Middle East. It will be based on a next-generation ladder frame platform designed to meet high safety standards in crash tests conducted by Global NCAP and Euro NCAP.

While the concept version exhibited several design elements typical of a concept vehicle, the production variant is likely to feature a more subdued design. It will retain its rugged appearance with substantial cladding and high ground clearance suitable for challenging terrain. Some components are expected to be shared with the Scorpio N to improve cost efficiency.

The production Scorpio X is poised to incorporate a range of advanced features and technologies, including Level 2 Autonomous Driving, semi-automatic parking, and 5G-based connectivity. Additionally, it will likely include popular features in India such as a sunroof and Trailer Sway Mitigation, enhancing towing safety with ESP interventions.

Powering the new Scorpio X pickup will be a Gen-II all-aluminium mHawk diesel engine paired with either a 6-speed manual or an Aisin-sourced 6-speed automatic transmission. It will offer 4WD with shift-on-the-fly capability and four drive modes: Normal, Grass-Gravel-Snow, Mud-Rut, and Sand. Depending on the market, a petrol engine option will also be available.

While the Scorpio X may initially launch in international markets, Mahindra’s plans for India include introducing the XUV300 facelift, the XUV300 EV, and the Thar 5-door variant later this year.
