Maruti Suzuki is set to introduce at least three new cars and SUVs to the Indian market in the coming year. These include the third-generation Swift, the all-new Dzire, and Maruti’s inaugural electric vehicle, the eVX SUV. Here’s a preview of what to expect and when, listed in the order of their anticipated launches.
Note: The provided prices and launch timelines are approximate estimates.
1. New Maruti Suzuki Swift
– Price: Rs 6 lakh-9 lakh
– Launch: Early 2024
– Engine: 1.2 petrol (Z-series)
The fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Swift is expected to make its debut in India shortly after being unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show. Spy shots and the showcased model indicate an evolutionary design with changes to headlights, tail-lights, and plastic components. The interior will feature a familiar layout, including a large floating touchscreen infotainment system. The new Swift will introduce Suzuki’s Z-Series engines in India, replacing the current K-Series engine. Expected in early 2024, the Swift will offer improved fuel efficiency and bottom-end torque with the new engine. Manual and automatic gearbox options are anticipated, with a later introduction of a CNG-powered variant.
2. New Maruti Suzuki Dzire
– Price: Rs 7 lakh-9.5 lakh
– Launch: Mid 2024
– Engine: 1.2 petrol
The launch of the new Maruti Suzuki Dzire is expected shortly after the arrival of the Swift. The fourth-generation Dzire will feature an evolutionary design, interior updates, and an extensive equipment list. Sharing the new 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine (codenamed Z12) with the Swift, it will offer manual, automatic, and CNG options. Maruti aims for a comprehensive update, hoping to maintain the Dzire’s status as the best-selling sedan, as seen in FY2023.
3. Maruti Suzuki eVX SUV
– Price: Rs 23 lakh-25 lakh
– Launch: Late 2024
– Battery: 48kWh, 60kWh
Maruti Suzuki’s first electric SUV, the eVX, is slated to arrive in India in late 2024. Drawing design inspiration from the Grand Vitara SUV and the Fronx crossover, it features an SUV-coupe-like rear-end. The interior is expected to include premium elements like a twin-screen setup, powered front seats, a 360-degree camera, and ADAS tech. The eVX will offer two battery pack options – a 48kWh unit for entry-level variants, providing approximately 400km of range, and a 60kWh option for top-spec trims, offering around 450km on a single charge. The eVX will face competition from upcoming electric vehicles like the Hyundai Creta EV and higher variants of the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. Additionally, there will be a Toyota-badged version arriving in 2025, both built on a locally derived derivative of Toyota’s 40PL electric skateboard architecture, produced at Suzuki’s Gujarat plant.
