Ather Energy, the electric two-wheeler startup, is set to expand its portfolio with the introduction of the Ather 450 Apex next month. Commemorating the company’s 10th anniversary, this limited-run model represents the pinnacle of Ather’s initial platform. Anticipated to be the “fastest Ather yet,” according to CEO Tarun Mehta, the Ather 450 Apex will emphasize performance and is expected to feature a more powerful motor.
Produced in limited quantities, the Ather 450 Apex is likely to undergo several styling changes, including unique additions to its bodywork to visually set it apart from other 450 models. The scooter will also be offered in new colors, expanding Ather’s color palette. A distinctive feature of the 450 Apex will be the inclusion of transparent side panels, reminiscent of the translucent panels introduced with the Ather 450X Series 1.
The highlight of the Ather 450 Apex is its upgraded motor, anticipated to deliver significantly more peak power than the standard 450X. This enhancement will make the Apex the first Ather model with a top speed exceeding 100 kmph, along with an estimated 0-40 kmph acceleration time of around 3 seconds, making it notably quicker than the standard 450X.
While the 3.7 kWh battery pack is expected to be retained from the 450X, potential changes to the suspension and braking setup, including the incorporation of an anti-lock braking system (ABS), are yet to be confirmed.
Pre-orders for the Ather 450 Apex are expected to open after its full unveiling next month, with deliveries likely to commence in 2024. Given the anticipated upgrades and limited availability, the pricing for the Ather 450 Apex is expected to be closer to the Rs 2 lakh (ex-showroom) mark.
