Kia is gearing up to unveil the facelifted Sonet in India on December 14, with price announcements expected early next year. This marks the first mid-lifecycle update for the compact SUV since its launch in September 2020. Spy shots of test mules suggest significant exterior and interior updates, while the vehicle will retain its current mechanical specifications.
While the uncovered images of the Sonet facelift were from China, the India-specific model is anticipated to feature distinct front and rear bumpers. Exterior revisions include a redesigned grille, adjusted headlamps with new LED Daytime Running Lamp elements, and fresh alloy wheels. The rear will showcase new vertical tail-light units connected by an LED light bar, similar to the new Seltos.
Internally, expect a slightly updated dashboard with new switchgear for the HVAC system, potential adoption of the Seltos facelift’s infotainment and driver screens, and an updated digital instrument cluster from models like the Venue and Carens. Additional enhancements may include new upholstery and trim choices, standard six airbags across the range, and potentially the ADAS suite seen in its sibling.
The Sonet facelift is likely to retain its existing engine options: the 1.2-litre petrol engine with 83hp, the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with 120hp, and the 1.5-litre diesel engine with 116hp. The petrol engine is expected to pair with a 5-speed manual, while the turbo-petrol and diesel engines will retain the 6-speed iMT. There are also indications of a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic for the turbo-petrol and a 6-speed automatic for the diesel.
Competing with models like the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Nissan Magnite, and Renault Kiger, the updated Sonet is likely to see a slight increase in prices. Currently priced between Rs 7.79 lakh and Rs 14.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi), the Sonet offers a competitive range of features and enhancements.
