TVS is preparing to introduce an all-electric version of its XL100 moped to compete with the Kinetic E Luna, which is presently the sole electric moped available in India. Ahead of its unveiling, TVS has trademarked the names “XL EV” and “E-XL,” indicating its commitment to electric mobility.
The XL100 has been a staple in the Indian market for over four decades, evolving over time to incorporate modern technologies and engines while maintaining its utilitarian essence. The current model boasts features such as USB charging, electric start, LED DRLs, and an engine kill function. Powered by a 99.7 cc four-stroke, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine, the petrol XL100 delivers 4.3 bhp at 6000 rpm and 6.5 Nm of peak torque at 3500 rpm, capable of carrying loads of up to 130 kg.
While details regarding the all-electric XL moped are limited, it’s anticipated that TVS will equip it with an electric powertrain while preserving the classic design of the combustion engine model. Additionally, the electric variant may offer a split seat with a removable rear portion for increased cargo space.
Upon its launch, the electric XL is expected to be positioned above the petrol XL100 in terms of features and pricing, while remaining competitive against the Kinetic E Luna.
