Xiaomi SU7- Electric Sedan of Tomorrow

Estimated read time 2 min read

The Xiaomi SU7, the first electric vehicle (EV) from consumer durables giant Xiaomi, is set to make its global debut. Here are some of its key features:

l   Design: The SU7 sports a fastback sedan-like design with a low-set nose and triangular headlamps. It has a prominent central air intake and small side vents at the front. The sides feature soft lines and notable flares around the front fender and rear haunches. A sensor module, possibly for facial recognition or NFC-based tech, is hidden in the B-pillar. The rear has a raked C-pillar, an integrated spoiler element, edge-to-edge tail-lamps, and a faux diffuser look on the bumper. There’s also a deployable rear spoiler.

l   Dimensions: The SU7 measures 4,997 mm in length, 1,963 mm in width, and 1,455 mm in height, with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. This makes it slightly smaller than the current E-class long-wheelbase offered in the Indian market.

l   Powertrain: The SU7 will be available in two drive layouts – rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive. The rear-wheel-drive model will have a 220 kW electric motor, while the all-wheel-drive model will have an additional electric motor with 275 kW. The sedan will offer a choice of battery chemistries – LFP and NMC, supplied by BYD and CATL respectively.

l   Weight: The sedan’s weight will range from
1,980 kg to 2,205 kg (kerb weight), suggesting sizeable battery packs.

l   Interior: While the official interior design is yet to be revealed, spy images suggest a digital-heavy interface with most in-car controls on a large central touchscreen.

This near 5-metre-long electric sedan will go on sale in China early next year.
